Despite the popularity of the goldfish and betta fish, many aquarists have neither of these as their first. Instead, that honor usually belongs to a guppy, or molly, or something along those lines.

In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the livebearers, or fish that give birth to live young. The article will be treated as a family review since most livebearers belong to a single family: the Poeciliidae. However, we will also discuss a few separate instances of livebearers relating to other families.
